In a concerning development, a social housing property in Veryan, Cornwall, has remained empty for a staggering eight years. Located on the Park an Dreas estate on the picturesque Roseland peninsula, this shared ownership home is managed by the housing association LiveWest, which operates throughout the South West.

Local officials are understandably frustrated, especially during a time when Cornwall is grappling with a housing crisis. Both the parish council and Cornwall councillor Julian German have voiced their dissatisfaction with the prolonged vacancy.
A Call for Action
Councillor German expressed his outrage, stating,9 His sentiments echo the feelings of many in the area, where there are reportedly over 30 families on the waiting list for housing in Veryan.
Parish councillor Luke Dunstone added, “It’s an unacceptable situation. We just cannot seem to get LiveWest to get a shift on where this property is concerned.” The frustration among community leaders highlights the pressing need for action.
LiveWest’s Response
In response to the outcry, LiveWest explained that the property has been undergoing renovations. James Reseigh, the director of neighbourhoods, apologized for “any inconvenience this may have caused” and clarified the situation: “An unauthorised loft conversion carried out by the previous resident left the home facing complex structural issues and in an uninhabitable condition. We have since been working to make this home safe to be occupied.”
He reassured the community that builders are currently on site and that they expect to complete the renovations within the next six weeks. Once finished, they will begin the process of occupying the home.
As the community waits for this situation to resolve, it serves as a reminder of the ongoing housing challenges facing many regions. We’ll keep you updated on any further developments regarding this property and its future occupants.
